Omega Guard Services Patrol Services Charlotte, NC and Charleston, SC
  • How is Omega Guard Services licensed in North Carolina and South Carolina?

Omega Guard Services is licensed to provide contract security services in both North Carolina and South Carolina. In North Carolina, we operate under the Private Protective Services Board (PPSB) per N.C. General Statute Chapter 74C. In South Carolina, we are licensed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) under Title 40, Chapter 18. Our founder, Chris Kilpatrick, is a licensed SLED officer and certified instructor in South Carolina, and is also licensed in North Carolina. This means the standards we hold our officers to are written, taught, and enforced in-house, not outsourced.

Are your security guards licensed and background checked?

Yes. Every Omega Guard Services officer is registered through the proper state board before stepping onto a client site, PPSB in North Carolina, SLED in South Carolina, and must clear an FBI fingerprint-based criminal background check, drug screen, and state-mandated training before being deployed. Unarmed officers in NC complete a 16-hour PPSB-approved course; armed officers complete an additional 20-hour firearms course and qualify annually. South Carolina requires SLED Primary Basic certification for unarmed and Primary Plus with Weapons for armed.

    Do you carry insurance?

Yes. Omega Guard Services carries general liability and workers' compensation coverage that meets or exceeds the limits required by both state regulators and most commercial property managers, hotels, and event venues. Certificates of Insurance (COI) naming your property as additional insured are typically issued with contract signing.

What is the difference between a SLED card and a PPSB registration?

A SLED card is the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division's registration certificate that authorizes a person to work as a private security officer in South Carolina. A PPSB registration is the equivalent credential issued by North Carolina's Private Protective Services Board. They are not interchangeable. An officer working a Charleston post and a Charlotte post needs both. Omega Guard Services cross-credentials our regional officers so we can flex coverage between the two states when clients have multi-market needs.

  • How is pricing determined for Omega's security services?

Omega Guard Services builds custom pricing for every engagement based on a detailed scope of work and risk assessment. The variables that shape your quote include the type of coverage (armed, unarmed, executive protection, fire watch), number of officers and hours, post location and risk profile, uniform and presentation requirements, reporting cadence, and any specialized training or compliance needs. After a free consultation and an on-site assessment, we deliver a written proposal and bid that lays out the full scope, deliverables, and transparent line-item pricing.

Why is armed security more expensive than unarmed?

Armed officers cost more because the training, insurance, screening, and equipment requirements are significantly higher. In North Carolina, armed officers complete an extra 20-hour PPSB firearms course on top of the 16-hour unarmed curriculum, qualify annually with day and night shooting requirements, and carry higher individuall liability. The hourly rate reflects all of that plus the experience level required to make the right call when escalation matters.

Is there a minimum contract length or hour commitment?

Most on-going contracts have a four-hour minimum per shift, which is standard across the industry and reflects the cost of dispatching an officer, gear, and travel. Long-term residential patrol, hospitality, and corporate accounts are usually billed weekly with a 30-day cancellation clause. Fire watch and event coverage are quoted as one-time engagements with their own terms.

  • What cities and neighborhoods does Omega Guard Services cover?

Omega Guard Services provides security services across the Carolinas, with active coverage in Charleston, SC, Charlotte, NC, and Chapel Hill, NC. In Charleston we cover downtown, Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, Kiawah Island, Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, James Island, West Ashley, and Folly Beach. In Charlotte we serve Uptown, SouthPark, Ballantyne, Myers Park, Eastover, Dilworth, South End, Plaza Midwood, NoDa, and the Lake Norman corridor. Coverage is also available throughout surrounding counties for events, fire watch, and executive protection.

Do you offer security services in Chapel Hill and Raleigh, NC?

Yes. Chapel Hill is one of Omega's newest active markets, with coverage across Franklin Street, the UNC campus area, Meadowmont, Southern Village, and Carrboro. We're also preparing service for the greater Raleigh and Triangle area, including Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Brier Creek, North Hills, and Research Triangle Park. The Triangle market is a natural fit because of the density of corporate campuses, medical and academic institutions, and high-end residential communities. These are all areas where Omega's hospitality-trained model performs especially well. If you need coverage in Raleigh ahead of full launch, contact us; we have flex capacity for special events and short-term contracts.

Who provides security on Daniel Island, Kiawah, and Isle of Palms?

Omega Guard Services provides private security, residential patrol, and event protection across Daniel Island, Kiawah Island, Seabrook, Isle of Palms, and Sullivan's Island. Coverage includes gated community patrol, vacation rental oversight, weddings and private events, and dignitary protection for visiting executives and entertainers. Our officers are hospitality-trained, which matters on these islands because the coverage has to feel like part of the guest experience, not the opposite of it.

Can Omega cover events in cities outside its core markets?

Yes. For special events, executive protection details, and short-term hospitality engagements, Omega Guard Services regularly deploys teams across the Carolinas and the broader Southeast. Multi-market coverage is one of our specialties, particularly for clients with a flagship property in Charleston and a satellite location in Charlotte, or vice versa. Reach out at least two weeks before the event when possible so we can coordinate personnel and equipment or schedule a site visit.

  • What is the difference between armed and unarmed security?

Unarmed security officers deter, observe, document, and de-escalate. They are the right fit for hospitality, residential patrol, access control, and most corporate environments. Armed security officers carry an authorized duty firearm and are deployed where there is a documented elevated risk: executive protection, cash handling, jewelry retail, certain federal contracts, and threat-specific assignments. The choice isn't about preference, but about matching deterrent posture to the actual risk profile of the post.

When do I need armed security versus unarmed?

You need armed security when the realistic threat at the post involves a weapon, when high-value assets are present (cash in transit, jewelry, firearms, controlled pharmaceuticals), when there's a credible threat against a specific person or executive, or when federal compliance or insurance requires it. For most hotel lobbies, restaurant entrances, residential gates, weddings, and corporate events, properly trained unarmed officers are the right answer and often a better fit because they preserve a hospitality atmosphere.

Are off-duty police officers better than licensed security officers?

Off-duty police and licensed private security officers are different tools for different jobs. Off-duty officers carry full arrest authority and are appropriate for events with crowd-control or specific law-enforcement coordination needs. Licensed contract officers, like Omega's, are trained for sustained post coverage, hospitality integration, detailed reporting, fire watch, and consistent uniformed presence over weeks or months. For most on-going residential, commercial, and hospitality work, contract security is the right model; off-duty police are a complement but not a replacement.

  • When is a fire watch required?

A fire watch is required by NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code) when a building's fire alarm system is out of service for more than four hours in a 24-hour period, or when a water-based fire suppression system (sprinklers) is impaired for more than 10 hours in a 24-hour period. Fire watch is also required during hot work (welding, cutting, grinding) under NFPA 51B, during certain construction and demolition phases, and any time the local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), typically the fire marshal, directs one. The cumulative hours rule matters: it's total downtime in 24 hours, not consecutive.

How fast can Omega deploy a fire watch officer?

Omega Guard Services can typically have a trained fire watch officer on site within two to four hours of contract signing in Charlotte, Charleston, and Chapel Hill, and within the same business day for surrounding markets. Faster response is possible for existing clients on file. Because fire watch compliance is time-sensitive, your insurance, certificate of occupancy, and AHJ approval depend on it, we keep dispatch-ready officers available for emergency activations.

What does a fire watch officer actually do?

A fire watch officer continuously patrols the affected area on a documented schedule (typically every 15 to 30 minutes, set by the AHJ), maintains a written log of every patrol with times and observations, monitors for smoke, heat, and fire conditions, and notifies the fire department and building occupants immediately if a fire develops. Omega officers also coordinate with facility managers and contractors on hot work permits, document any impairments to the fire system, and produce a clean log packet your AHJ and insurer will accept.

Do you provide fire watch for construction sites and hot work?

Yes. Omega Guard Services provides fire watch for active construction, demolition, renovation, hot work operations (welding, cutting, brazing, soldering), and any scheduled or emergency impairment of fire alarm or sprinkler systems. Coverage is available 24/7 across our Charlotte, Charleston, and Chapel Hill service areas, with structured patrol logs, hot work permit oversight, and direct coordination with the local fire marshal.

  • What is hospitality security and how is it different?

Hospitality security is private security delivered in a way that complements the guest experience instead of disrupting it. The officer is uniformed and visibly present but trained to greet, assist, and de-escalate before they enforce. They are closer to a discreet concierge with full security training than a standard guard. Omega Guard Services specializes in this for luxury hotels, fine dining, private clubs, and high-profile retail, particularly in Charleston's hotel corridor and Charlotte's SouthPark and Uptown markets.

    What is executive protection?

Executive protection (EP) is personalized security for individuals facing elevated risk. This includes corporate executives, public figures, family members, professional athletes, and high-net-worth individuals. EP includes threat assessment, residential security, secure transportation, advance work for travel and events, and close protection details. Omega's EP teams are armed, plainclothes-capable, hospitality-trained, and experienced at integrating with existing personal staff so the protection is effective without being intrusive.

Do you provide residential patrol for HOAs and gated communities?

Yes. Omega Guard Services provides residential patrol for HOAs, gated communities, and private estates across Charleston (including Daniel Island, Kiawah, Mount Pleasant, and Isle of Palms), Charlotte (Myers Park, Eastover, Ballantyne, SouthPark), and Chapel Hill (Meadowmont, Southern Village). Patrols include marked-vehicle presence, gate access control, vacation home checks, suspicious-activity response, and detailed nightly reports. Coverage can be scheduled at fixed intervals or randomized for higher deterrence.

Can Omega provide security for private events and weddings?

Yes. Omega Guard Services provides security for private events, weddings, charity galas, corporate functions, and brand activations across the Carolinas. Coverage typically includes uniformed or plainclothes officers, gift table protection, parking and access control, VIP escort, and end-of-night closeout. We are regularly hired for Charleston destination weddings on the islands and for Charlotte and Chapel Hill corporate and private events.

Do you handle federal contracts and compliance work?

Yes. Omega Guard Services supports federal compliance and government contract work, including security at federally regulated facilities and as a vetted subcontractor to national and regional security firms operating in the Carolinas. Our founder's background includes Department of the Navy cybersecurity work, which informs how we approach documentation, vetting, and chain of custody on these contracts.

  • How do I hire Omega Guard Services?

Hiring Omega Guard Services starts with a free consultation. Call (980) 819-2480 [NC] or (843) 588-7341 [SC] or submit the contact form on our website. We'll ask about the post, hours, risk profile, and any specific compliance or insurance requirements, then deliver a written scope and quote, typically within 24 hours. Once the agreement is signed and the COI is issued, officers can usually be on site within 24 to 72 hours for standard contracts, and within hours for emergency fire watch.

How quickly can you start coverage?

Standard contract coverage in Charlotte, Charleston, and Chapel Hill begins within 24 to 72 hours of a signed agreement. Emergency fire watch and short-notice event coverage can typically be deployed the same day. Lead time varies for armed details, executive protection advances, and large multi-officer events. For those, we recommend reaching out at least one to two weeks ahead.

Do you offer free consultations or site assessments?

Yes. Omega Guard Services provides free consultations for all prospective clients and on-site security assessments for on-going coverage prospects. The assessment includes a walkthrough of the property, review of existing access controls and risk areas, and a written recommendation that you can use whether or not you ultimately hire us.

What does a typical Omega security contract include?

A typical Omega Guard Services contract specifies the post location, days and hours of coverage, armed or unarmed status, uniform standard, reporting cadence, escalation protocols, primary points of contact, and the certificate of insurance requirements. Contracts are written in plain language, no surprise fees, no auto-renewal traps. Standard cancellation is 30 days' written notice for ongoing engagements.

  • What makes Omega Guard Services different from other security companies?

Omega Guard Services is built on a hospitality-first model. This means our officers are trained to integrate with your team and your guest experience, not stand apart from it. Founded by a Charleston, SC native and former Department of the Navy cybersecurity expert who is also a licensed SLED instructor, the company's standards are written and taught in-house. Practically, that translates to lower officer turnover, polished presentation, real reporting (not a checked box), and the ability to flex armed, unarmed, and executive protection assets across the Carolinas under one contract.

    Who owns Omega Guard Services?

Omega Guard Services was founded by Chris Kilpatrick, a Charleston native, former Department of the Navy cybersecurity professional, licensed SLED security officer and certified instructor in South Carolina, and licensed in North Carolina. He leads the company day-to-day, sets the training standards, and personally vets senior officers.
